I designed had them fabricated for me my own granny bars (mast pulpits). Actually this was the easiest project I ever did on the boat. I just stand close to the mast pretending to work and measured the distance from the mast and the desired height of the horizontal bar which has a shallow "V" shape to give a getter holding. The rest is obvious from the picture. The local fabricator produced the front part consisting of the two legs and the horizontal bent bar as one piece and the back leg separately. He also produced the three flanges to secure the structure on deck. The final assembly was done on site - some last minute cutting (using an abrasive disc cutter) was necessary. Then he took the almost ready granny bar to polish it. I so happy with the result I actually stay sometimes close to the mast to admire the powers of nature! The feeling of safety is impressive - almost better than the cockpit since you are locked into place. Don't leave home without one. Panos Kontogiannis T37 Cookelu meu
